Inaugural Professorial Lecture – Professor Miranda Mirosa
About Professor Mirosa’s research
Miranda is a consumer food scientist whose behavioural research engages knowledge from fields such as marketing and psychology to provide insights and interventions for food system sustainability.
Miranda is the Director of the University of Otago Food Waste Innovation Research Theme, which measures food waste, develops reduction strategies, applies innovative technology, and works to modify producer and consumer behaviour. She provides academic consultancy services on food waste to governments and businesses. She is the author of The Mirosa Report, written for the Parliamentary Environmental Committee, which ran a national briefing on food waste. She is the founding Chair of the New Zealand Food Waste Champions 12.3 Trust, which works to accelerate progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal Target 12.3 and halving food waste by 2030.
Miranda recently became a Fellow of the NZ Institute of Food Science and Technology, recognising her “substantial contribution to the profession of food science and technologyā€¯.
