There is a growing gap in public management between what happens on stage, and what happens backstage. Front of stage — media and politics — requires quick and simple messages, while the backstage is characterized by complexity, prudent leadership and compromises. How wide has this gap become, and what are the implications of this for public governance?
Speaker: Erik-Hans Klijn is professor at the Department of Public Administration of Erasmus University Rotterdam and visiting professor at the University of Birmingham (School of Government and Society). He is an internationally distinguished Public Administration scholar, especially on the field of complex decision-making, policy networks and network management.
